Resource constrained scheduling capabilities of commercial project management software

Article Abstract:

A comparative analysis of schedules produced by commercial software packages for 110 construction projects is presented. Results show that commercial packages do not generate the shortest feasible schedule with the integration of resource-leveling. Moreover, no commercial package produces a constant quality performance and while optimizers use up too much time. A suggested solution to achieve an optimal resource-leveled schedules is a FORTRAN program that converts a commercial package's imported data into an optimal schedule derived by using an optimizing algorithm.

"Show me the money."

Article Abstract:

Project management maturity (PMM) may be evaluated through a measurement tool developed by the Software Engineering Institute named Capability Maturity Model (SEI CMM). The SEI CMM emphasizes the role of project management as an essential process tool in measuring any business or organization's capacities. Project management is done in a step by step process with improvements and adjustments done along the way. Project management involves not only the project managers but each individual in the organization.

Virtual audits

Article Abstract:

The increasing dependence of project management with information technology not only can cause improvements but can also bring about some scary possibilities. For instance, it is predicted that growing popularity of telecommuting will lead to the online conduction of Project Management System audits. It is expected that project meetings done online will not be effective and fruitful since it will be open to intrusion from anyone who is using the Internet.
