Retail store industry

Article Abstract:

The leading retail store chains which comprise the retail store industry have mixed prospects for 1999 and the year 2000 with discounters gaining market share and disappointing results for department stores. Many store chains are also launching electronic commerce efforts with Wal-Mart, Federated, and Nordstrom's in the lead. Investors should consider only the most timely stocks and those companies which will benefit the most from electronic commerce.

Retail store industry

Article Abstract:

The retail industry environment in the US has worsened after the terrorist attacks of Sep 11, 2001 and subsequent loss of jobs and employment. The market share for discount stores has increased, however, to the distress of department stores. These stocks are relatively unattractive for the next three to five years.

Retail store industry

Article Abstract:

The retail store industry has been hurt in 2000 and 2001 by layoffs and high consumer debt. Same-store sales in the department store sector have been disappointing, but market share has been increasing for discount store chains. These stocks have limited appeal for investors, both for the short and long term.
