Revved-up for reform

Article Abstract:

The industry wants market-based reforms in the Industrial Relations. The Howard government had opted for a softer approach on the Industrial Relations in its election manifesto anticipating a hostile Senate. Now that the government will have the senate majority, it remains to be seen whether it decides to be pragmatic while formulating the relevant legislations or adheres to its election promises.

Article Abstract:

The Federal Government of Australia will introduce draft legislation designed to further tighten audit regulations and corporate disclosure in October 2003. The parliamentary secretary to the Treasurer, Ian Campbell said the whole philosophy of the new law was to give better real-time information to the market and shareholders to act ensure that they can act on the information.

Contrary commission: inadvertently or not, the Productivity Commission is getting the government's back up

Article Abstract:

The attack of the Australian Productivity Commission on its free-trade agreement with the United States is discussed. The concerns faced by the government in the face of the Commission's demand for trade and tariff reform are examined.
