SafeCard's Shareholders

Article Abstract:

One critic believes that SafeCard Services has misled or neglected shareholders' interests. Most stockholders have suffered financial losses by the steep decline in the price of the stock in 1983. Before a disappointing earning report was released to the public, the chairman of the company, Peter Halmos and his brother Steven, president of the company, sold large blocks of SafeCard stock when it was near the top price. The company suffered losses when it changed its marketing strategies twice. The first change modified membership rules and increased the company's earnings markedly. This strategy was then abandoned after a year, and the former practices renewed. This critic believes that management should have known the consequences of these actions. The company also has inadequate reporting methods for stockholders.

A Guide to Getting Publicity

Article Abstract:

Once you've decided to make your product or service a household name through advertising, following a series of steps will help to insure success in the media. Advertising needs clear, simple images of which there are several that are extremely popular right now (such as the All-American Mother). Once the image has been developed, then the media can be courted. Expect to have to be persistent, and to convince whomever is in charge that you've got what the radio or television audience wants to hear. After getting on the radio or television, two things must be done- non-competitive programs should be notified when you'll be on, and a tape must be made for you of the program. After this, you are well on your way to becoming a star.
