Second and vacation homes: how to maximize your deductions

Article Abstract:

The real property tax to be paid by owners of vacation homes depends on the extent of the owners' personal use of their properties. Thus, the tax paid by principal users of the house differ from that paid by homeowners who have their property rented or those who use their second home for more than 14 days each year. Homeowners must consult their accountants to find out which category they belong. Their accountants can also advise them on Tax Court and IRS regulations.

Which delivers more dollars: increasing sales, cutting taxes, or reducing costs?

Article Abstract:

Business owners should be aware of the great savings that can be gained from tax planning activities. Many business owners believe that the only way to maximize profits is through cost cutting, which can lead to increasing sales. The federal government takes a percentage in every profited dollar. Every tax dollar saved is actually a full dollar, without any percentage deductions. This suggests that tax savings can be translated to sales profits.

A six-point approach on how business owners can gain increased knowledge of their products and pricing them to maximize sales and profits is presented. Specifically, two business tools are examined, namely, break-even analysis and contribution profit analysis. The former shows what sales and expenditure balance would bring a zero profit, while the latter shows how to assess sales and costs to maximize profitability.
