Senate passes campaign finance reform bill

The Senate, by a vote of 60 to 38, passed a bill that would reduce campaign contributions by special-interest groups and restrict spending in congressional elections. A public-financing provision of the bill was changed due to Republican opposition.

College-aid bill passes Senate

Senate passes tax bill; middle-class cut almost fails
