Online shopping fails to fulfill promise

Article Abstract:

Online shopping by computer has not become popular. It has been seven years since Compuserve Inc introduced its Electronic Mall, and online services still sell only about $100 million worth of merchandise annually. By contrast, home-shopping television channels sell more than $2 billion each year. Online services are making plans to move into interactive television, but it remains uncertain whether interactive technology will make online shopping more widely accepted. Some businesses are doing well. Prodigy Services Co says shopping is growing somewhat faster than membership. PC Flowers Inc, which can be accessed through Prodigy, has become one of the nation's leading florists.

Job-hunters turn to software and databases to get an edge

Article Abstract:

Cambridge, MA-Spinnaker Software Corp's PFS:Resume and Job Search Pro software program, at just $60, may be a good way for those out of work to spend part of their severance pay. The program can make an impressive resume on the basis of looks and format, and it even provides users with a cover letter. Users need not worry about margins and the like, they just simply fill in the blanks and the program will create a one-page resume. A data base enables users to do mass-mailings. PFS:Resume and Job Search also includes a scheduler and time-management capabilities that can aid a user in their job search. The software works best with a laser printer.
