Some Issues Are Worth Getting Angry About

Article Abstract:

American Association of Advetising Agencies Media Policy Committee members recently participated in a roundtable discussion covering a wide spectrum of industry issues. Committee chairman Allen Banks complained that the industry is being 'manipulated' and argued for a right to anger at some developments. Banks and colleagues Sean Cunningham and Mark McLaughlin discussed issues related to media effectiveness, operations management and strategic planning.. Points that bother Banks include the fact that most advertisers are not activist enough and unaware that their interests may not coincide with those of clients. He wants to see agencies take a stand on consolidation of media properties, which tends to restrict content variety, as Cunningham adds. McLaughlin argues that accountability rather than higher pricing is the key issue. Clutter is another major media problem, especially in television.
