Staff/Line - A Distinction That Can Impede Instead of Expedite Line Operations

Article Abstract:

For a company to operate effectively, it must achieve a proper balance between its line and its staff. The function of the staff should be to support and advise management. Line managers are usually the authority of the actual operation. There should be a clear distinction of authority and responsibility between line and staff, otherwise problems can arise. Effective staffers can serve many roles. These include problem solving, analyzing projects and trouble shooting. Staff and the line function can be integrated. One method is to rotate skilled personnel between operational and staff positions. This will widen their scope and understanding.

Heart helper

Article Abstract:

An intravenous magnesium shot can double a heart-attack victim's chances of survival. This was the findings of a report in the Men's Health newsletter, which further provided evidence that high magnesium levels decrease heart disease incidences. One currently held theory is that magnesium has an effect on the workings of vasoconstrictors, while another espouses that magnesium could counter the damages caused by calcium deposits in heart tissues in the event of a heart attack.
