Still another adversary for Microsoft

Article Abstract:

Microsoft's tactics in the browser market have harmed the use of Sun Microsystems's Java language, according to Justice Department papers. Since Netscape's Navigator browser incorporates Java, blocking Netscape also blocks off Java's main channel of distribution. Java is a cross-platform technology designed to loosen Microsoft's grip on operating system standards. The Justice papers quote internal Microsoft e-mail messages saying it was "necessary ... to blunt Java momentum ... to protect our core asset Windows."
