Strategic Information: The Key to Effective Planning

Article Abstract:

Corporations must concentrate on long-term planning to effectively plan for the future. Long term strategic planning requires information of a strategic nature on external, internal and environmental factors. External and environmental were found, in a study of the planning process, to be the categories of information most significantly related to strategic planning. The ten most important and the ten least important information factors are ranked in an accompanying table. Personal contact with subordinates and inside reports are important to strategic planning. Senior management's active participation in the planning process is critical to the successful performance of the plan.

Six Step Method to Long Range Planning for Nonprofit Organizations

Article Abstract:

Nonprofit organizations need to do long range planning. In order to develop an effective strategic plan the nonprofit organization should develop a plan that involves a minimum of paper work and sets attainable goals. A six- step method is proposed. This method allows for a good exchange of ideas and planning principles. This proposed plan must be analyzed and monitored on an ongoing basis.

Technological change requires multiple careers to attain job security. Steps are outlined for developing a career plan. Research, self-appraisal and knowledge of the market are necessary. A sample career plan for a financial executive is provided. A good plan should be concise, measurable, realistic and flexible. As priorities change, so will personal objectives.
