Now you, too, can be a spy; new Web site offers photos from satellites, planes; some fret about privacy

Article Abstract:

Consumers can now obtain aerial and satellite images once available only to military and espionage agencies. Firms like GlobeXplorer Inc. and others have amassed databases of satellite imagery which can be accessed through their Web sites. GlobeXplorer's high-resolution images can be obtained by consumers without having to use special software other than a Web browser.

At Demo 2001, a high-technology products trade show, many companies will be displaying products like robots, digital pens and new technologies that track user preferences and consumer location.

Microsoft to alter Windows 98 so data about users won't be sent to company

Article Abstract:

Microsoft Corp. plans to alter its Windows 98 operating system so that it will not send hardware identification numbers to Microsoft when the user registers his or her computer, and says that it will purge all data that may have been gathered improperly for entry into a database.
