Testing and classifying vehicle dispatching rules in three real-world settings

Article Abstract:

The performance of real-time guided vehicle dispatching rules in minimizing the average load waiting times in a distribution center, a glass production plant and a container transshipment terminal is evaluated. The study shows that distance-based dispatching rules perform better than time-based dispatching rules, regardless of vehicle utilization rates, in all three settings.
