Textile industry

Article Abstract:

The textile industry as an entity is doing better now than it was at the same period of 1996 but some sectors of the industry, such as denim, are doing poorly and others have been spotty. Although earnings are expected to be better than sales, the outlook for most sectors is mixed. With extremely competitive prices and more apparel production shifting to Mexico and Asia, it is difficult to recommend industry-wide investment and even specific companies should be thoroughly evaluated before investments are made.

Textile industry

Article Abstract:

The outlook for the textile industry in 1997 is slightly brighter than the previous four years. Profits for manufacturers of synthetic textiles will be solid in 1997, but problems will persist for denim mills through the first six months of the year. The four-year bilateral accord between China and the US will also help the industry. The textile industry is expected to have renewed profits and growth in 1997, but investors must be selective.

Textile industry

Article Abstract:

Modest gains are expected for the textile industry during the 4th qtr of 1996 after mixed results during the 3rd qtr of the year. Knit goods is one industry segment which is creating excitement through several new looks and products in 1996. However, denim mills are not doing well in 1996, but this is expected to change in the second half of 1997. Although earnings should improve in 1997, investors must evaluate these stocks individually.
