The British roots of business ideology

Article Abstract:

A survey of business ideological beliefs, attitudes and values among U.S., U.K. and Australian managers focuses on : labor-management relations, the role of government, decision-making and objectives, belief in the capacity of workers, and ethnocentrism. While the pattern of responses is similar for most items, U.K. managers showed less opposition to intervention by labor unions and government than expected. U.S. executives differ in attitudes towards industrial relations, privacy, the role of government and career advancement. A consideration of national stereotypes as well as social institutions within each country is essential to understanding ideological similarities and differences.

The CPI Commission: discussion

Article Abstract:

Katharine G. Abraham, W. Erwin Diewert and Jerry Hausman discuss the Final Report to the Senate Finance Committee from the Advisory Commission to Study the Consumer Price Index. Abraham agrees with most of the report while Diewert recommends the report as an extremely good introduction to the problems in establishing a cost-of-living index. The upward bias in the Consumer Price Index was documented very carefully, according to Hausman.
