The Impact of Institutional Reforms on Characteristics and Survival of Foreign Subsidiaries in Emerging Economies

Article Abstract:

The article identifies three institutional forms adopted by foreign subsidiaries in post-crisis environments: majority joint-ventures, wholly-owned subsidiaries, or trading operations. It is therefore posited that foreign subsidiaries with these capabilities are better situated to survive crises than others; the 1997 financial crisis in Asia is used as an illustration.

A Dual Networks Perspective on Inter-Organizational Transfer of R&D Capabilities: International Joint Ventures in the Chinese Automotive Industry

The article examines how local recipient networks and multinational enterprise source networks influence affect knowledge transfer, using the automotive industry in China as an illustration. This dual networks approach is discussed relative to future research on relationships between multinational corporations and their international joint venture partners.

The Relevance of the Institutional Underpinnings of Porter's Five Forces Framework to Emerging Economies: An Epistemological Analysis

Article Abstract:

The Toulmin method is used to analyze Porter's Five Forces Framework (FFF), and identifies three primary qualifiers in FFF theoretical structure: capital flows, transaction costs, and competition laws. Findings show that assumptions in FFF regarding these qualifiers are not met in emerging economies; implications for research are discussed.
