A study of organizational image resulting from international joint ventures in transitional economies

Article Abstract:

The organizational images of Sino-American international joint ventures (IJVs) and Sino-Japanese IJVs are analyzed in the Chinese context and the four categories (product, service, environment and social images) are identified for predicting the images resulting from the Sino-American and Sino-Japanese IJVs studies. The results show that these image categories are related to the images of the IJVs and product image has the strongest effect while the country-of-partner of the IJVs does not have that much impact on the IJVs' image.

Knowledge acquisition, cost savings, and strategic positioning: Effects on Sino-American IJV performance

Article Abstract:

The effects of the motivational variables like knowledge acquisition, transaction cost savings and strategic behavior on the establishment of the Chinese-American international joint ventures (IJVs) are investigated. The results show that among the IJV managers in China, all three motivation variables and moderators of goal similarity, goal complementarity and guanxi are present, and the moderating variables affected the relationship between the three predictors and the IJV performance.

Knowledge transfer in international joint ventures in transitional economies: the China experience

Article Abstract:

The most important factor which caused rapid economic growth in China is the country's multiple joint venture activities. However, dissatisfaction with the results of joint ventures is rising, which may be caused by lack of understanding of the knowledge needs of the partner companies. It has been proven that knowledge transfer is one motivation in establishing a joint venture that results in an improved financial performance.
