The Problem of Selling Costs: Toward a Holistic Solution

Article Abstract:

Mounting sales costs affect top management, sales management, and the sales force. Many Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) are frustrated by the high cost of maintaining a sales force. Some managers feel that by increasing sales, they will increase profits. This is not always the case. Cost-minimization tactics are not always effective, either; they may alienate the sales force. Sales managers should be selling, not managing. A holistic approach, like preventive medicine, may be effective.

Remedy for That Shocking Problem

Article Abstract:

In a dry atmosphere, people walking on carpeting create friction which causes them to lose ions from their bodies. They may then attract ions from grounded electronic machines, disrupting the circuitry. Static-reducing mats costing $200 may be used with machines that have restricted access. For those machines in open areas used by many people, it is better to use an anti-static carpet spray which costs $50 for an application lasting six months.

Old Problem, New Light

Article Abstract:

Optical read only memory (OROM) speeds data retrieval in large databases. The use of lasers with computer disk technology allows users to have data right in a desk top computer instead of forcing expensive on-line searches. The OROM equipment itself is expensive, costing as much as ten thousand dollars. A cheaper alternative may be the compact audio disk drive (CD-ROM). A diagram of OROM technology is included.
