The European Community, international trade, and world unity

Article Abstract:

This article examines the evolution of European economic unity from the formation of the European Council in 1949 through the Maastricht Treaty. The steady increase in European economic integration demonstrates the triumph of the ideas of economic liberalism and free trade over those of mercantilism and protectionism. Moreover, European regional economic integration has not come at the price of increased international trade; on the contrary, the two have tended to re-enforce one another. Riverside Medical Center: everyone's satisfied

Article Abstract:

An example of a firm that has addressed the need for employer-supported day care is Riverside Medical Center (Kankakee, IL) which opened a day care center in July 1989. The medical center provides the space, utilities, maintenance, food and equipment for the day care facility which cares for children between the ages of six weeks and six years. Since opening the day care center, Riverside has achieved higher employee morale, enhanced recruiting results, and lower rates of absenteeism, results which reflect findings of studies on employer-supported day care.
