The essential impact of context on organizational behavior

Article Abstract:

The impact of context, defined as situational opportunities and constraints that affect the occurrence and meaning of organizational behavior as well as functional relationships between variables is studied. It is found that there is a tendency for organizational culture researchers to ignore industrial macrocultures and hence context effects are underappreciated, though hopefully a new trend is set, which signals a more sophisticated treatment of context in organizational research.

Institutional theory, language and discourse analysis: A comment on Phillips, Lawrence, and Hardy

Article Abstract:

The core elements of the thesis on the neglect of language and the inadequate treatment of power in institutional theory, motivated by strong support for the identification of language's critical role in institutionalization are discussed. The critique of the limitations of institutional theory is welcomed, but the shortcomings of casual and inconsistent attentiveness in the formulation and application of the diagnosis are identified.
