The many hats of Stanley Howard

Article Abstract:

Australian Prime Minister John Howard's brother, Stanley Howard, is a renowned company chairman and director of more than twenty companies in Australia. Following a career in law, Howard pursued the path of company director. Several of the companies where he is a board member are reporting losses and are struggling. He maintains that he has no conflicts of interest among his dealings.

Issues are presented concerning the acquisition of 6.54% of Melbourne IT by the small-companies investment fund Perpetual. The interest shown by investment funds in companies trading in the technology sector is discussed.
