The outlook for 1997 United States corporate earnings

Article Abstract:

Earnings of US corporations are expected to rise 15.7% in 1997 according to a survey of 2,500 security analysts and over 200 institutional equity research firms. Technology earnings are expected to be the highest at 34.3% while the consumer services industry is expected to register a 24.3% growth. Healthcare is expected to post a 23.6% rise with energy posting a 9.7% rise. Basic industries are expected to register an 11.1% increase, Trucking to register a 93.9% increase with the forest products industry posting a 5.6% decrease.

The outlook for United States corporate earnings

Article Abstract:

A survey of investment advisers reveals that US corporate earnings are expected to increase 10.4% in 1998 with 1999 expected growth rates pegged at 20.4%. Major market index growth rates are generally lower with S&P 500 operating earnings expected to increase 7.2% and 16.9% in 1998 and 1999 respectively. The study is a survey of 3,400 security analysts affiliated with over 300 institutional equity research firms.

Forecasts for US corporate earnings in 1999 are presented. Analysts are anticipating 15.2% earnings growth for the S&P500 in 1999, while investors are forecasting earnings growth of only 13% to 14%.
