The workplace revolution; jobs have become far more demanding, and workers must think in different ways and adapt to unpredictable changes

Article Abstract:

Computer technology may have taken the physical work and tedium out of many jobs, but it has replaced them with more strenuous mental demands, requiring a workforce that is better educated and ready to deal with technological changes. The changes are requiring once menial employees to take on new responsibilities and diversified tasks. At this point many workers are not able to accommodate the changes as they take place, and human resource workers are worried that soon an entire generation will be left behind. According to a study by the Hudson Institute, by the year 2000, below-average skills will be good enough for only 27 percent of the available jobs.
