The luxury automobile industry is lowering its prices due to lack of demand. Economic troubles in Asia, Russia, and South America have caused problems in the market. Although 1998 is expected to produce a new record in car sales, this is mainly attributed to smaller cars and station wagons. Sales of luxury cars are promoted with discounts, free services or equipment, and special edition models.

Hard road ahead

2001 has been a strange and unpredictable year for the automobile industry and 2002 looks to have the same kind of turbulence to it. They industry will see many challenges such as exchange rate fluctuations, uncertain oil prices, and increases in insurance premiums.
