To franchise or not to franchise: an analysis of decision rights and organizational form shares

Article Abstract:

A model for guiding entrepreneurs in deciding to take franchising as an organizational form has been developed. Decisions are allocated between the franchisor and the franchisee so that knowledge is used more efficiently in controlling the franchise. Franchises are negatively affected by risk and human capital. Interindustry data is used in a discrete choice model to test these propositions.
