Top level management priorities in different stages of the organizational life cycles

Article Abstract:

Two studies, a simulation and a field study, were conducted to test the relationship between changes in top-level management priorities and organizational life cycle. Both studies indicated that: priorities change as life cycles progress from stage to stage; the importance of political support increased as the organization matured; and organizational concerns were highest in the middle stages. However, the two studies diverged in assessing the importance of technical efficiency.
