Top managers and TQM success: one more look after all these years

Article Abstract:

A study examining how US companies can adopt lean production techniques based on total quality management (TQM) more easily and quickly found that TQM success depends largely on the attitudes of managers. Their attitudes toward goals, customers and time tend to influence their approach to quality management. Managers' orientations to TQM are categorized into three: developmental, tactical and defensive. The findings indicated that the managers implementing the most active TQM programs were those with developmental orientation, while those with defensive orientation showed the least application of TQM.
