Tottering, TCF takes yet another beating

Article Abstract:

The 2000-2004 tariff reduction for the Australian textile, clothing, and footwear (TCF) sector will do little to prevent problems associated with increased Chinese participation in the market. Australian TCF is largely dependent on China for production and the supply of raw textiles. Asian currency devaluations will not stop an influx of cheap cotton and man-made fibers. The Asian crisis may only exacerbate the price drops.
