Training and research strategies for small firms

Article Abstract:

Special efforts are needed to break the resistance of entrepreneurs and owner-managers of small, British firms to available courses in business education. Research on owner-managers is the basis for a 'bottom up' approach in courses relevant to the needs and expectations of small firms. The important elements in the key management function of finance are the generation of a business plan, raising finance, and day-to-day financial control. Training in easy-to-learn, simple marketing techniques could reduce some of the resistance stemming from cost or complexity.
