Intergeneration Differences in Consumer Behavior: Some Evidence from a Developing Country

Article Abstract:

The learning of consumer skills and values can be facilitated through analyses of consumer socialization processes. Research in India shows that children are particularly useful sources of information, and finds that childrens' part in the information process should be encouraged. Mothers were not regarded as rational socialization forces in India; United States research has opposite findings. Socialization differences are probably linked to differences in economic development. The two main approaches to research in consumer socialization are cognitive development use and social learning structure use. The cognitive development approach is used to identify socialization differences among children who are different ages, while social learning structure can identify differences among those who are the same age. The sample composition of the Indian research is shown in tables, as are germane areas of consumer data.

Agency influences on risk reduction and operating performance: an empirical investigation among strategic groups

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted on the activities of strategic groups in three industries that effect risk reduction and increase operating performance. Basis for the investigation is that risk management strategies have differing implications for shareholders and managers, with shareholders concerned about managing systemic risk while managers are concerned with managing unsystemic risks which impinge directly on their performance. Results show a negative relationship between total risk management and performance and that earnings performance was driven by firm-level factors.
