Treasury to slow government borrowing

Article Abstract:

Treasury Sec Robert E Rubin announced on Oct 17, 1995, that the government would reduce the number of Treasury bills being offered for sale in order to avoid default. The decision came amid a budget dispute between the Republicans in Congress and Pres Clinton over a debt ceiling increase.

President signs third stopgap measure

Article Abstract:

A continuing resolution bill that provides federal funding through Mar 15, 1996, was signed by Pres Clinton on Jan 26, 1996, averting another government shutdown. The bill authorizes $12.1 billion in foreign aid and reduces funding for some programs such as AmeriCorp.

President vetoes VA-HUD funds

Article Abstract:

An $80.6 billion appropriations bill for FY 1996, was vetoed by Pres Clinton on Dec 18, 1995. The president objected to large cuts in the Environmental Protection Agency's budget and the elimination of funding for the national service program AmeriCorps.
