UPN comedy takes up AIDS fight; Viacom project helps battle disease by writing about it; rise of 'cause' marketing

Article Abstract:

UPN's TV program 'Girlfriends' will feature HIV/AIDS as a story theme in its May 12 episode, the last in a series of four programs relating to the disease, as part of a campaign sponsored by the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation and UPN's parent, Viacom. In addition, Viacom will donate public service announcement air-time worth $120 million in 2003 to address the disease.

Snowe feels the heat, but hasn't melted

Article Abstract:

Republican Senator Olympia Snowe of Maine defied party leadership by voting to cut the size of George W. Bush's tax cut in half. As the swing vote on the Senate Finance Committee, Snowe may well control the fate of the tax cut package, which has been central to the Bush administration economic policy.

House approves tax moratorium for net commerce

Article Abstract:

The United States House of Representatives has voted to extend the tax moratorium on electronic commerce for five more years. Some GOP senators don't agree with this move and desire to use taxes to scale back the growth of the Internet and e-commerce.
