Using discounted cash flow heuristics to improve project net present value

Article Abstract:

Analysis of 17 heuristic methods pertinent to the solution of a project scheduling problem seen in the context of resource constraint shows comparative performance in satisfying the aim of maximum net present value. Two heuristics are found to be thoroughly satisfying with regard to net present value maximization as well as in project duration improvement. Two others which have been highly regarded for their performance in other researches were disappointing in terms of the maximization function.

Heuristic scheduling of capital constrained projects

Article Abstract:

A comparative evaluation of heuristic procedures is made to determine the optimal tool to use for scheduling problems that exist in the context of capital constraints. These alternative heuristic methods are judged according to such criteria as project network organization, capital use and progress payments frequency. The heuristic that uses optimization-based procedures turns out to be the best performer.

The resource constrained time/cost tradeoff project scheduling problem with discounted cash flows

Article Abstract:

A heuristic method is proposed that incorporates three priority rules and is devised to solve a scheduling problem that operates under resource limitations. The procedure aims towards the maximization of the net present value of the project assuming discounted cash flows without spending too much time and cost in doing so. The included priority rules are found to be robust.
