Various firms, groups to offer ways to curb unsolicited E-mail on Internet

Article Abstract:

A group of technology companies and consumer groups will deliver a proposal to the FTC today, which recommends industry self-regulation and some FTC oversight to curtail Internet spam. The proposal blames spam for contributing to numerous recent delays of Internet E-mail. Among the proposal's supporters are Microsoft, IBM, America Online and technology advocacy group Center for Democracy and Technology. Recommendations call for FTC and Justice Department clarification of legal jurisdiction over E-mail fraud; technology companies to develop E-mail software screen-filtering tools; and commercial E-mail companies to create a self-regulatory system that gives Internet users the option of receiving commercial mailings. Spam accounts for up to 15 million to 20 million commercial messages per day.

Software is easing expense-form headaches

Article Abstract:

Filling out expense reports is greatly simplified for those who use software that enables electronic accomplishment of the process. For example, an oil field manager working for a drilling company says filling out his expense reports is much easier since his company's MIS department started using On The Go Software's Quicken ExpensAble 98. The manager says filling out reams of expense reports has become a simle point-and-click effort accomplished quickly at the end of a day, using a laptop computer. The arrival of travel-and-expense (T&E) automation is being greeted with enthusiasm by travelers who previously had to deal with scribbled notes and rubber-banded receipts. Because travelers have less paper to deal with, they are free to focus on more productive tasks.
