Westpac is poised to test its home cooking on non-bank advisors

Article Abstract:

Westpac is working on recapturing its powerful reputation in 1998. During the 1980s, Westpac had a powerful reputation. In the early 1990s, key executives left for other banks. A series of regional bank acquisitions has increased Westpac's customer base by 2.2 million between 1994 and 1998. Westpac is the fastest growing retail fund manager in Australia through excellent marketing techniques and product design.

Westpac steps back from outsourcing

Article Abstract:

Westpac Banking Corp. has decided not to outsource its real estate services after spending five months working on contracts. Westpac's approximately 1,800 properties are worth around $1 billion (Australian). Although the company would save costs and improve management of its real estate by outsourcing, measurement of those benefits and inherent risks was deemed impossible.

Westpac, debt-easy and raring to go

Foreign banks in Australia consider Westpac their toughest corporate services competitor. The bank is one of Australia's dominant participants in the asset securitization, debt syndication, foreign exchange, and bond markets, and the 1998 expiration of a no-compete pact with Ord Minnett will give Westpac more freedom to compete in the underwriting arena.
