Ziggy smiles for a sale

Article Abstract:

Telstra is gearing up for the big sell-off as can be seen by the shuffling of the senior executive ranks, an $800-million cost-cutting expedition and a decision by the Federal Government not to participate in Telstra's $800-million to $1-billion share buyback at the end of the year. By not taking up the share buyback, the Government will end up with an estimated 50.9% of the stock, compared with its current 50.1% shareholding.

Telstra: floating on an index cushion

Article Abstract:

The Australian Stock Exchange, by giving Telstra 2 shares full All-Ordinaries-index weighting at the exchange's Nov 1, 1999, monthly setting process, will help buoy the shares during their first month of trading. Telstra Corp's index weighting will increase from 6.8% to 10%, and analysts expect that Telstra's share price, after the Telstra 2 float, will increase to $9 a share.
