1999: the year of public to private

Article Abstract:

The key feature of corporate finance activity in the UK in 1999 was the large number of public-to-private (PTP) deals. The PTP concept was developed as a response by corporate financiers to a lack of interest in new issues on the Aim, the Official List and other regulated and non-regulated markets. In 2000, there is likely to be a sharp rise in initial listings, especially on Aim. There will also be continuing pressure on smaller existing quoted firms. Both private and professional investors will be more interested in new technology and internet-related businesses now that concerns about year 2000-related computer software problems have vanished.

A changing marketplace

Article Abstract:

There have been many significant developments in corporate legal services in the UK over recent years, and corporate law firms are now undertaking new forms of work. There is growing pressure on these firms to offer a certain element of added value, going far beyond traditional legal skills. Services are becoming much more international in nature, and changes are also taking place as accountancy firms establish their own legal practices.
