A springboard for successful business

Article Abstract:

The buoyant corporate finance market in Nottingham, England, is good for the regional economy. Observers have pointed out the busy corporate finance market is likely to continue and they expect to see more management buyouts happening in the near future. Larger firms are focusing on their core businesses and therefore are more willing to sell. The purchase of the engineering firm Concentric for 87 million pounds sterling by the management team, was completed in Aug 1998. The management of the Britton Group Plastics also purchased their business, for 90 million pounds sterling.

Takeover fever in the West Midlands

Article Abstract:

Most smaller quoted companies in the UK, especially those in the West Midlands region, are seeing their share price trade at a discount, thus making the company appear undervalued. Equity fundraising becomes problematic, and these companies can become the target of takeover bids. This has been seen clearly in the West Midlands, where there is strong emphasis on engineering and manufacturing, sectors which are currently being rejected by financial analysts. It seems likely that the high level of takeover activity seen in the region in 1997 will continue in 1998.
