20th century art sale

Article Abstract:

Christie's has scheduled the auction of a group of art pieces from the Maurice and Margo Cohen Collection on May 13 and 14, 1999. Part of the collection, which is comprised of over 60 masterworks by artists such as Joan Miro, Henri Matisse, Alberto Giacometti and Alexander Calder, will be on display at the Hotel Richemond in Zurich, Switzerland, on Apr 13 and Apr 14, 1999. The Cohens, members of the Detroit business community, built up their collection over 25 years, acquiring some of the finest examples of 20th-century sculpture, paintings and drawings in the process.

Christie's auctions the contents of the Herblingen castle

Article Abstract:

Christie's of London is scheduled to auction the contents of the Herblingen castle from Sep 14 to 18, 1998. To be sold are furniture, china, glassware, European and Asian art pieces, sculpture, silver, carpets, textiles and toys. Herblingen was a former residence of Leopold I, the Duke of Habsburg, who was defeated by the Swiss at Morgarten. Well-known Hollywood stars such as Gloria Swanson, Tyrone Power and Audrey Hepburn stayed at the castle during their visits to Switzerland. The castle is currently being owned by Hindrik Nieboer.

The art of love

Article Abstract:

Christie's will auction the Haddad Family Collection of Ancient Erotic and Amuletic Art on Dec 17, 1998. The collection consists mostly of Greek and Roman pieces, some dating back to the 5th century BC. Although erotic art has long been kept in European museums, it has generally been withheld from public view, in deference to Victorian values.
