A small scale unit under the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) specialises in making handmade paper and products and sells under brand name Jothi Speciality Papers. The unit is set up in Erode at a cost of Rs10 lakh. Its annual turnover is Rs15 lakh. It makes paper from wood free recycled fibres like cotton waste from the hosiery town of Tirupur. It produces one tonne of handmade paper a day. Its products include handmade papers, envelopes, greeting cards, wedding cards and carry bags for five star hotels. It has opened a retail outlet in Bangalore. It plans to open a retail outlet in Chennai. (rk)
