A Russia to do business with?

Article Abstract:

There is a need to be wary of acting Russian president, Vladimir Putin, who aims to be elected in Mar 2000. Putin has correct priorities, such as tackling corruption and reviving the economy, and he does not place the blame on western countries for Russian problems. He may begin to improve Russia's foreign relations. There are a number of areas where cooperation with the west is in Russia's interests. There is still concern about whether he can perform his task and preserve liberty, which is needed for democracy in Russia. Putin should be supported if he respects human rights, and kept at a distance if he does not.
