Article Abstract:

Asia Pulp & Paper Co. (APP), a pulp trading company, is in the process of restructuring its $13.4 billion debt, which is complicated by the organization of the business. Headquartered in Singapore, APP is run by the Widjaja family of Indonesia, yet its stock is listed in the United States. Regulation of this debt restructuring will occur in both Indonesia and the United States, and by the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency.

Timber demand whittles away nation's natural forests

Article Abstract:

Forestry companies in Indonesia such as Asia Pulp and Paper Co. and Asia Pacific Resources International Holding Ltd. are demanding more trees to feed their mills, drastically decreasing the size of Indonesia's forests. Some pulp companies are illegally logging timber, and most do not replant trees to sustain the environment.

APP's long-term bind
