The second sex

Article Abstract:

The academic progress of women could have been adversely affected when formerly male colleges began to admit women in the 1970s. Another explanation to the fact that men dominate the finals lists at both Oxford and Cambridge, could be that women entering universities today, are not as academically formidable as 25 years ago. The hypothesis has been tested through correlation of A-level socres of both male and female students and the findings show that the gender deficit is attributed to the lower academic quality of women from state schools, along with the bias towards men in the Oxford honour schools.
