A fixed interval due-date scheduling problem with earliness and due-date costs

Article Abstract:

The problem of scheduling n jobs on a single machine with two due-dates that occur at regular intervals was explored. The problem, which is NP-hard, involves the minimization of the linear tardiness and linear earliness penalties incurred if the item is not produced on schedule. An unrestricted version of the problem is easy to solve. To facilitate its solution, lower and upper bounds to the problem were derived.

A product line design problem with multiple quality-type attributes for a monopolist who serves multiple customer segments is considered.
