EU to investigate Microsoft venture with Time Warner

Article Abstract:

The European Commission has launched an investigation into the acquisition of ContentGuard Holdings Inc. by Microsoft Corp. and Time Warner Inc. ContentGuard produces anti piracy software and the Commission is concerned that the proposed deal could give Microsoft an unfair advantage in the security software market in Europe. Time Warner joined Microsoft to purchase most of Xerox Corp.'s ownership of ContentGuard in April of 2004. Though the companies were not required to make an antitrust filing in the U.S., they are required to do so in Europe in order to comply with European Union regulations.
