A grand old dame preens for the next dance

Article Abstract:

The upper three storeys of Taiwan's prestigious Grand Hotel were gutted by fire along with precious artwork but its rivals in the industry hardly benefited from it. Actually, the hotel was in decay and remained largely for its historical value as it was the favorite haunt of statesmen such as Pres. Chiang Kai-shek and royalty from other countries such as Thailand and Saudi Arabia. The hotel has been eclipsed in popularity by the newer five-star hotels. Nevertheless, the hotel is up for renovation.
