Manufacturers of automotive components are being forced to respond to significant changes in the business environment, especially the need to achieve critical mass. This is reflected in the purchase by LucasVarity of US automotive and aerospace group TRW for 4 billion pounds sterling. It is clear that no automotive component supplier can afford to ignore the need to change as technological developments begin to put pressure on established market segments.
