A meaty solution: redevelopment of the Oxo building, South Bank Wharf, London

Article Abstract:

The Oxo tower is a landmark on the South Bank of London and it has been refurbished to create mixed use development. The building was losing large areas of facing bricks and the intact brickwork was badly stained. This had to be cleaned using abrasives at low pressure. A local brickmaker was employed to make new bricks for the facade, using the same clay type. On the rear and exposed west elevation, new brick was used with a plain stretcher bond.

Health and comfort in offices

Article Abstract:

Sick building syndrome (SBS) is suffered by office workers. The syndrome is likely to occur where there is a large number of people. It is affected by the environment, the building, individual workers' attributes and their jobs. The syndrome involves runny or dry eyes, lethargy, problems with breathing and headaches. Design guidelines are being introduced to prevent SBS.
