A merger of unequals?

Article Abstract:

Swiss Bank Corporation (SBC) and Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS) have announced merger plans for 1998, in a deal valued at 14.9 billion pounds sterling. SBC Warburg Dillon Read will take over the investment arm of UBS, re-naming it Warburg Dillon Read (WDR). SBCWDR reported 81.6 billion pounds sterling worth of deals from Jan 1985 to Dec 1996, while UBS reported 11.1 billion pounds sterling from Jan 1985 to Dec 1996. WDR plans to employ a global workforce of 14,000 by the end of 1998, although UBS will make 13,000 people redundant by the year 2002.
