Article Abstract:

There are more than 400,000 foreign nationals employed in Greater London, England, nearly a ninth of the work force. Banks are major employers of foreign nationals, and sandwich chains also employ a high proportion of foreigners. Mainland Europeans have become more common, and Irish workers less so, with Ireland undergoing a boom. The major immigration waves from the Caribbean and Indian subcontinent have also ended. Skills shortages are one reason for employers taking on foreign workers, and foreigners may be attracted to the UK due to its flexible labor market.
